Antioch - Potash Boom Town
Antioch NE

Along with World War I, came the "Potash Boom" in Southern Sheridan County. Antioch, and Lakeside became important industrial centers. In an extremely short period Antioch’s population increased from 175 to between 1,600 and 3,000 people. When the war ended so did the employment and Antioch is now not much more than a memory.

Homes were moved out by the dozens and many are still in use in and around the Alliance Area. Wooden pipe, once used to transport potash rich water to the plants, and the wire that held it together, can be found in windbreaks and fences throughout the area.
