P.E.O. provides educational opportunities for women by offering scholarships, grants, awards, and loans to help women enhance their lives through education.

Our local Chapter offers a scholarship to a Gordon/Rushville High School Senior. Our fundraising efforts of selling greenery and hosting a soup and bread sale go towards helping the P.E.O. Home in Beatrice, Cottey College, and other scholarships and grants.

We strive to be involved in the community by hosting a Trunk at the Spook Fest, Buddy Reading to students at Rushville Elementary, and attending local plays and community fundraisers.

The Historic Plains Theatre was erected in 1914 by prominent Rushville businessman, David Gourley, and became the Gourley Opera House. At the time it was built the theatre was one of the most modern such establishments in the western half of the state. The upstairs was later converted to a movie theatre and the downstairs was used as a dance hall/roller rink. The Plains Theatre closed in the 1960’s and fell into disrepair. In the 1990’s, local business people and volunteers began the slow process of restoration. Today, the theatre is listed on the Nebraska Historic Register and since 1998 it has served as the home for the Sheridan County Players, a non profit theatre company.

Our city parks host an outdoor swimming pool, tennis court, basketball court, playground equipment, picnic tables, public restrooms, RV dump and baseball/softball fields. The Tri State Cowboy Museum and the Scamahorn Museum are located in the park.
